WOULD YOU TAKE A PHOTO OF ME THAT SHOWS?

14thApr. × ’17

Seagulls line up by the water’s edge
spaced out like lifeguards
watching for prey

Centuries of battles engrained
who stands where
give me my space
codified into evolution
emblazoned DNA

I need a piece of horizon
this morning
Just a small glance
to share with you
and no one else

I need to hold my knees
and you to know
not to interrupt

I want
you to be you
me to be me
we to be gazing and gone
together and apart

Spaced out and locked in
appreciating everything
in its place and not
unique and a manifestation

and for you
standing on your piece of shore
to think I am everything
even though I know
I too am only
a part
